Coconut Water - is it really worth the hype?

Over the last few years, coconut water has grown in popularity even though it has been consumed around the world for centuries. Coconut water is found inside young, green coconuts and does in fact have numerous health benefits, here are just a few:

Tons of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)
Coconut water is a source of potassium, magnesium, calcium and others depending on where the coconut was sourced. These are all needed by our bodies and are commonly found in sport drinks and other electrolyte beverages.

Aids Digestion
One of the micronutrients mentioned, Magnesium, is important for proper digestion. Magnesium helps muscles contract. Your food makes its way through your body via a series of muscle contractions in our digestive tract. Magnesium also activates enzymes that help our bodies absorb and utilize macronutrients needed from food.

As you’d suspect it basically water, 94% water actually. With coconuts containing electrolytes it is great for hydration.

Coconut water has also been known to support heart health and blood sugar levels. These are just a few of the various benefits of choosing to incorporate coconut water into your daily nutrition routine.

Now when it comes to picking a coconut water, you will want to look for one without any additives, added sugar or flavourings and ensure it only has one ingredient: coconut water.

If you haven't already, I highly suggest giving coconut water a try.
